I have always been fascinated by the night sky. Moving to the Driftless area afforded me the opportunity to see it in a way not afforded in many places. Once I saw how well a modern digital camera captured the Milky Way, I embarked on a pandemic project to capture the pastoral beauty of this rural region. To produce my imagery I take an exposure for the sky, then walk around in the scene itself with a flashlight “light painting” the foreground areas of interest. The Milky Way punctuates the sky giving one a glimpse of infinity. The rural foregrounds are symbols of our ephemeral existence within eternity.
