Diane Brown is inspired by the green valleys, sandstone cliffs and winding Kickapoo River that surround my studio in Viola, Wisconsin, Diane’s pottery blends organic forms, earthen colors, and whimsical functionality. Over 40 years, and spanning Wisconsin, Colorado, Arizona and Chicago. Her work has developed a style that blends rural & urban.
The work takes two directions, the emergence of Seeds, Pods & Mycelium which are hand built. Diane’s work is about the natural evolution of plants spreading their seed. It is about opening her art to the influence of the natural world and opening herself to growth and development.
Her functional work is for daily use shows her love of cooking, gardening and entertaining. The functional works are wheel thrown and altered. The sculptural work is wheel thrown, hand built and assembled. The glazes are layered to create a rich depth and are formulated by Diane in her glaze studio. The works are food-safe and dishwasher safe.
Diane’s work reflects her background as an artist and most of the work is drawn prior to creating in three dimensions.
